This morning I listened to Nancy Ray's first podcast of her "May is for Mamas" series, "Episode 156 - Speak Scripture Over Your Children" and she inspired me to go through Scripture and turn several of my favorite Psalms into prayers for my kids. I wanted to share them with you here as we approach Mother's Day to maybe inspire you to do the same. Nancy reminded me that Isaiah 55:11 says "the Word of God never returns void." So when we go to scripture for wisdom, guidance, comfort, strength, peace...we will never walk away empty-handed and when we speak scripture out loud over our children, God will use it to bless them and to bless us mamas, too. I pray these words bless you and your sweet babies no matter what season you find yourself in.
Happy Mother's Day to all the beautiful mamas out there
wondering every day if they are doing it right...
"My eyes look to the hills--where does my help come from?My help comes from the Lord, the maker of Heaven and Earth." (Psalm 121:1-2)
"God make your path of life known to my kids. Grant each of them the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever." (inspired by Psalm 16:11)
"Teach them your ways, O God, that they may live and walk in your truth! Grant them purity of heart, so that they may honor you. With all my heart I will praise you, O Lord my God. I will give glory to your name forever for your love for them and for me is very great." (inspired by Psalm 86:11-13)
"God, you made each of my kids. With your hands you created them. Give them the sense to follow your commands. Give them the understanding that they may learn your word, to observe your ways with all of their hearts. Open their eyes that they may see the wonderful truths in your instructions." (inspired by Psalm 119:18, 34, and 73)
Oh Lord, you know each of my kids. You are acquainted with all their ways. Even before a word is on their tongue, you know it. You hem them in, behind and before, and you lay your hand upon them. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me to understand." (inspired by Psalm 139:3-6)
"to hem in" means to surround or enclose someone or something and prevent them from moving or leaving...so this verse/prayer is asking God to completely surround them and guide them to himself so they find love, peace, life, and wisdom all the days of their life.
"I praise you, for each of these children you have put in my charge are fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works, my soul knows it very well. Search my mama-heart. Test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me and lead me along the path of everlasting life. I give thanks to you, God, for you are GOOD." (inspired by Psalm 139:14, 23-24)
I encourage you to listen to Nancy's podcast and create your own prayers from scripture to speak over your children. She mentions in her podcast some musicians that have songs full of scripture as a tool for speaking the word over them. One that we love at our house is Scripture Lullabies. I'd love to hear some of the tools you use in your home or the prayers you create for your babies. Please share!
Shalom, sweet mama.
These beautiful photos were taken by my wonderful friend, Lindsay Reed, as part of her Mommy & Me studio minis. As a photographer myself, I'm always taking pictures of my kids, but I rarely schedule a session with another photographer for me to actually be IN the photos too...wow, am I so thankful I did! These photos are precious to me and have reminded me the value of documenting your family, you WITH your kids, your relationship and connection to each one of them in every season is beautiful...it's so worth the investment! Thank you, Lindsay, for this precious gift!
