It was a beautiful, blue sky, warm summer day in Shelbyville, Kentucky the day these two committed their lives to each other. Surrounded by the beauty of nature and the love of family and friends, they spoke their vows and promised their love to each other. To think this stunning bride was the little flower girl walking down the aisle in my wedding 14 years ago blows my mind. And when she asked our baby girl to be the little flower girl in her wedding, the beauty of life was not lost on me. It was wonderful to be part of all the wedding festivities and get to hear from so many friends and family members tell about how wonderful Kyle and Calla both are. Hearing many prospectives that ranged from childhood friends, siblings, parents, college buddies, and everything in between, they all shared a common thread that these two people have a deep love for others, a call to service and a deep commitment to God and ministry, something I've witnessed first hand as I've watched them grow. Many big life-changes have happened for them in just a few short months including graduating from college, getting married, moving to a new state, and starting new jobs...enough major life change to break the average person, but these two handled everything with love and grace every step of the way, demonstrating that they are excellent partners in this life. I can't wait to see what else God has in store for them as they start their lives together.
Shelbyville, Kentucky Boho Wedding
Everything they chose for their wedding was a beautiful representation of them as a couple. I'm obsessed with their color palate of blush pink, sage green, white and gray. The florals and decor with a subtle boho vibe were the perfect accents to their perfect wedding day. Shelbyville's Avonley Homestead was a stunning backdrop for this outdoor ceremony with its rolling hills and large elm trees.
What makes every wedding special is hearing about all the thoughtful details that went into making the day extra special. Some of my favorite details from their day included a journal bible as their guest book, a memory table of loved ones gone before us, their pup Winston as the ring-bearer, a first look that included foot washing, a yummy taco bar for dinner from their favorite restaurant, a delicious cake by his aunt, a note from her mom in blue ink on the bottom of her wedding shoes as her 'something blue', the background of the Mr. and Mrs. reception table built by the groom, all of the florals carefully picked out and put together by the bride and her mom, and the heartfelt vows they wrote for each other...
His vows:
Calla Grace, it feels like I have been waiting my whole life to be standing here in front of you.
To me, this moment could not have come fast enough.
You are the sweetest, silliest, most loving girl I have ever met.
You make my life fun.
You lift the spirit of every room you enter.
If the only thing I have for the rest of my life is your smiling face looking back at me, I’d be a happy man.
Your strengths are my weaknesses.
If there was a spectrum between keeping a schedule and
“I’m sure it will get done, I’ll finish it one day” we are on the opposite sides of that spectrum,
But that makes me better, that makes me a better man.
Having you in my life has made me want to be the best man I can be.
Calla, today I promise this to you.
I promise to love you for the rest of my life.
I promise to honor you, to push you, to inspire you the way you have inspired me.
I promise to lift you up and continue to make you see yourself the way I see you right now and every day.
I promise to count you as my prized possession.
I promise to be the best man, the best husband,
And, if God wills it, the best father that I have the ability to be.
I promise to make you and our family my first ministry, to be the spirital guide to you and our future family.
I also promise there will be hard times and hard seasons of our life together,
But I promise there will continue to be moments like this one
Where we can look into each other’s eyes and realize a lifetime together is worth more than anything.
Calla, I promise my life to you,
To have and to hold
To love and to cherish from this day forward as long as we both shall live.
I love you.
Her vows:
Kyle, to say you are my favorite person on this earth is an understatement.
I look into your eyes and the rest of the world simply falls away.
I’ve met plenty of amazing people in my life, but you for some reason surpass them all.
Your kind eyes, sweet smile, and humble soul truly enchant everyone that you meet.
You are my best friend, my biggest supporter and the best backup singer a girl could ask for.
Although today marks the start of the rest of our lives,
I know it will not be enough time with you.
I will not take our time together for granted.
And because words can’t do it justice,
I promise to show you for the rest of my lives how much I love you.
I promise to wake up thanking the Lord for you every day.
I promise to encourage you to follow your dreams.
I promise to make you laugh when you are taking yourself too seriously.
I promise to be patient with you, even if it means getting a shorter nap during football season.
I promise to hold your hand joyfully in the good times and through the bad.
I promise to be loyal, faithful, and the best partner that you could have in ministry.
I promise that when we are old and gray,
We will look back on our lives together and have no regrets.
From this day forward, you will never walk alone.
I love you, Kyle Parks.
To have and to hold
To love and to cherish from this day forward as long as we both shall live.

"After washing their feet, he [Jesus] put on his robe again and sat down and asked, 'Do you understand what I was doing? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right because that's what I am. And since I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you ought to wash each other's feet. I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.'" John 13:12-15, NLT
